The Season of Advent comes to us again with its call for us to prepare to "Let the Christ Child in." Sometimes we miss this message. The malls shout out "Christmas." Actually I think they mean "holiday sales." I visited the Willowbrook mall on the day after Thanksgiving and heard the carols playing over the public address systems. I said, "Oh, no. We haven't prepared yet. We haven't examined our lives, repented of our sins, we haven't sat in the darkness and waited for the light. The carols are premature." Needless to say, we become engrossed "preparing" for the season - putting up a tree, decorating the house, sending greeting cards, receiving greeting cards, baking, cooking, buying gifts, wrapping gifts, going to parties and gatherings ….. the list is long. Remember: there is one preparation that is more important. It is preparing for our Savior! I encourage all of us to be in Church, to hear the word of Christ, to stand in the light of the Advent candles, to watch, to prepare, to pray, to rejoice and to follow.
