Dear Friends:

Direction Finding

In Lewis Carroll’s story Alice in Wonderland, Alice, while on her journey, gets lost. She meets up with a Cheshire cat and asks for directions:

"Cheshire puss… would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"

"That depends on where you want to go," said the cat.

"I don’t much know where…" replied Alice.

"Then it doesn’t matter which way you go" said the cat.

"…so long as I get somewhere" Alice added as an explanation.

"Oh if you don’t know where you’re going" said the cat, "you’ll end up somewhere," meaning that if you don’t know where you are going you may end up where you would rather not be. In regard to spiritual direction, the Bible says: "without a vision the people will perish." Proverbs 29:18 KJV

Here at St. John’s we are on a mission journey for a new ministry that begins with Direction Finding. A Transitional Task Force has been called to establish direction with the hope of establishing a "mission with a vision." The fourteen members who make up this team are Becky Betts, Jud Delancy, Karl Fletcher, June Frantz, Carolyn Gray, Cher Henderson, Denise Hermetz, Stan Kersey, Melinda McGohan, Jenell Moyer, Del Parrott, Mary Sutton, Pat Wabler and Bob Wurstner.

The goals for the committee are to bring the congregation to the point of knowing and accepting its history, being able to define where it is and where it wants to go, and ready to commit to a new pastoral leadership and ministry for the future.

We will keep you informed and updated as to the committee‘s work. In the meantime, I encourage you to keep each of these members in your thoughts and prayers.

Your friend in Christ,

Pastor Browning
