WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING LATELY?

Thanks to Tracy Brachmann for taking these great pictures of the youth group giving an unbelievable performance during the presentation of a Charlie Brown Christmas!

On December 10th 2006, the youth group performed “Charlie Brown Christmas”! On this magical night, we all discovered not only the true meaning of Christmas, but the importance of teamwork, the exhilaration of achievement, and the wonderful feeling that comes with serving the Lord.

A copy of the play is available to check out in the library. If you have not seen it yet make sure you stop by and check it out!

POP STAR

The POP STAR for this quarter is… MITCHELL BRACHMANN!

Not too many high school students will jump on stage and play the part of a dog, cow, sheep and a penguin. Mitch displayed for us a perfect example of humility hard at work. Thanks Mitch for being a good sport, and a perfect 6 foot tall snoopy!

Words of Wisdom from the Bible

Did anyone notice how the characters in the play were committing multiple sins? I picked out a couple bits of dialogue that I am sure we can all relate to… and possibly learn a thing or two from as well.

PRIDE is excessive belief in one's own abilities that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.     FREIDA’s “naturally curly hair”, Lucy’s “Don’t you think I am beautiful”, and the “What about the Christmas Queen”

ENVY is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation. Snoopy wants to win the neighborhood lights and display contest.  Schroeder idolizes Beethoven.  Lucy wants the new contemporary “ Aluminum Tree” to be just like everyone else.

GLUTTONY is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires. Snoopy eating a stack of bones that reaches the sky.

PICT0761LUST is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body. Sally speaking about her crush on Linus, “Isn’t he the cutest thing”

ANGER is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.  Lucy “I’ll give you 5 good reasons” and makes a fist.  Lucy shouting at Charlie Brown multiple times throughout the play.

GREED is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.  Lucy “ How I love that sound of cold hard cash, Nickels, Nickels, Nickels”  . Sally requesting 10’s and 20’s from Santa clause for Christmas.

SLOTH/ LAZINESS  is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work. Pig Pen avoids the work of keeping himself clean. Snoopy is constantly relaxing….

Let’s learn from the mistakes of Snoopy and the gang. Live true to the Lord and follow these seven virtues that HE delights in.

Humility instead of pride                               Love instead of envy

Temperance instead of Gluttony                   Self control in place of lust

Kindness instead of anger                             Generosity instead of greed

                                    Zeal instead of sloth
